The International Conference on Women Farmers and Organic Food Systems was held in Shillong on 26–27 June 2026, bringing together women farmers, policymakers, and organic sector leaders from over ten countries under the theme “Women Farmers Leading Change Globally for Organic Food Systems.” Convened in observance of the UN International Year of the Woman Farmer, the conference examined the role of women farmers in Meghalaya’s organic and cooperative movement, with participation from government representatives and organic sector leaders across New Zealand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Bhutan, South Korea, and Central Asia.
The conference concluded with two formal outcomes: the adoption of a conference declaration affirming a shared commitment to organic agriculture and women’s leadership in food systems, and the signing of a five-year Memorandum of Understanding between MEGNOLIA and IFOAM Organics Asia. A field visit to Ri-Bhoi District followed, covering a women-led organic pineapple farming initiative and a government-backed organic spice processing facility.
