IFOAM Asia is based in Seoul, South Korea and was established as a regional group of IFOAM Organics International in 2012. There are more than 270 members in 22 countries in IFOAM Asia.

 

IFOAM Asia is the only regional umbrella organization of the organic movements in Asia and is officially registered as a legal entity in South Korea as a non-profit organization.

The idea of a regional body of IFOAM Organics International grew after the successful conclusion of the 17th IFOAM Organic World Congress (OWC) in September 2011- the first-ever event to be held in Asia.

Discussions began in earnest at the end of May 2012 in South Korea where 18 leaders of the organic movements from 14 countries in Asia achieved consensus on the formation of a regional body. A second physical meeting in Manila laid the framework of “IFOAM Asia” and after five months of preparations for its establishment, IFOAM Asia was officially approved by IFOAM Organics International on November 24, 2012.
